generalising the structure of number:

generalising operating on number to algebraic manipulation:
- 3 x 13 -> 3(10 + 3) -> 3(𝑥 + 3)
- 12 x 14 -> (10 + 2)(10 + 4) -> (𝑥 + 2)(𝑥 + 4)
the use of consistent representations in symbols and pictures.
